The point of university

I drove the 290 miles up to Durham with my eldest yesterday.  She was handed her programme for the first week and it contained 90% entertainment and only in the small print did it mention anything academic.

I am conscious that parents and students are now going to be highly discerning with regard to getting value for money, particularly from next year when tuition will cost almost as much as your average private school.

So - it had better be brilliant entertainment of a more intellectual and refined nature than you'd find elsewhere.  Or else I'm going to need to speak someone.
